The Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley along with Uniandes developed this project in order to achieve a better understanding of the seismic risk of the area, and propound the first priority measures to mitigate seismic risk. Seismic risk assessment was carried out by means of probabilistic methods, and the results gave the municipalities the necessary tools to develop risk management plans. Consecutively, risk management plans accompanied by reconstruction programs improve the emergency response capacity of municipalities, and facilitate the restoration of normal operating conditions of the cities, minimizing social and economic impact in the short and long term. In addition, a methodology for the inspection of buildings after an earthquake was developed, and the Seismic Information System of the region was updated and complemented with relevant information.
